Body Image Concerns

Body image concerns can drain energy and shape decisions. At HappinessCue, our Body Image Concerns sessions centre on rebuilding respect and functionality, stepping away from shame and towards steady self-care. This is emotional work grounded in practical change.

We begin by exploring beliefs about appearance and the contexts that fuel them: social media, comments, comparison, or performance pressures. Counsellors introduce body-neutral frameworks-focusing on what your body does rather than how it looks-alongside gratitude practices that slowly shift attention from critique to function. We also integrate self-compassion practices to soften harsh internal dialogue.

Practical strategies include media intake management, behaviour-based goals (movement for energy, sleep routines), and cognitive exercises to challenge unrealistic beauty standards. For clients with more severe distress, we coordinate with nutrition or medical specialists when needed, ensuring holistic care.

The aim is not instant love, but increasing ease: fewer critical thoughts, more acceptance, and healthier choices that feel sustainable. Friends and family are often coached to avoid appearance-focused reassurance or critique, and instead support strengths and values beyond looks.
