Identity & Self-Esteem Issues

When identity is shaky, self-esteem follows. At HappinessCue, our Identity & Self-Esteem Issues sessions help you trace where self-worth originates and intentionally build a more stable sense of value anchored in choice and integrity.

We explore internal and external contributors to esteem-childhood messages, social comparison, role loss, or transitions-and identify patterns that chip away at confidence. Counsellors then co-create practices to bolster self-respect: small boundary-setting experiments, values-led decision-making, and skills rehearsal that produces reliable competence.

Narrative work helps re-author the story you tell about yourself-turning “I am X” (a limiting label) into “I value Y and act to show that.” Behavioural supports (saying “no,” requesting feedback, finishing small projects) provide evidence of worth beyond praise. We also practice grounding rituals for days when esteem feels fragile.

For those whose identity is shifting-career change, parenting, or cultural transition-sessions offer guided mapping to integrate roles without losing core values. Family or partner sessions can clarify expectations that undermine esteem and replace them with supportive scaffolding.
